TCN Continues Compensation Exercise for Mando–Rimin Zakara 330kV Transmission Project in Kano


 The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has continued the compensation exercise for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) under the ongoing 330kV Double Circuit Quad Conductor Mando–Rimin Zakara Transmission Line Project, with another phase of payments successfully completed on Saturday, 9th May 2026, at Ring Road, area of Kano State.

The compensation exercise, which followed an earlier one held in Shika, Zaria, Kaduna State, is part of efforts by TCN to clear the Right of Way (RoW) for the strategic transmission project aimed at strengthening power supply across Northern Nigeria. The current phase of the PAP payment, cover persons along the Zaria to Rimin Zakara, corridor of the transmission line, with over 2,500 claimants benefiting from the exercise.

Speaking during the exercise in Kano, the Assistant General Manager and Project Manager, Engr. Omobola Odusoga Sobo, disclosed that a total of 5,500 Project Affected Persons were enumerated for compensation along the Mando–Rimin Zakara transmission corridor alone. According to her, the ongoing phase covering Zaria to Rimin Zakara accounts for more than 2,500 beneficiaries.

Engr. Omobola commended community leaders and stakeholders for their cooperation and support towards the smooth implementation of the exercise. She also appreciated the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of TCN, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, the African Development Bank, and the Federal Government of Nigeria for their continued commitment to the successful execution of this very strategic project.

Also speaking, the Assistant General Manager, Technical Services, Kano Region, and Chairman of the Anti-Vandalism and Encroachment Committee, Engr. Ibrahim Aliyu, stressed the importance of community support in protecting transmission infrastructure and ensuring the successful completion of the project. He noted that the transmission line project would significantly improve electricity supply, enhance grid stability, and support industrial growth across Kaduna, Zaria, Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, and parts of Bauchi State.

In his remarks, the Hakimi of Kabo Local Government Area, Alhaji Bashir Ado Bayero, commended TCN for carrying traditional institutions and affected communities along throughout the compensation process. He described the exercise as transparent, credible, and beneficial to the people, while urging beneficiaries and host communities to continue supporting the project for the overall development of the state.

The compensation exercise was conducted through a detailed screening and verification process, during which affected persons presented original documents for confirmation before payments were made. The exercise was orderly and transparent, with officials ensuring that only verified and legitimate claimants received compensation.

The Mando–Rimin Zakara 330kV Transmission Line Project is expected to run from the Mando Transmission Substation in Kaduna State to the Rimin Zakara Transmission Substation in Kano State, with a Turn-In Turn-Out (TITO) connection at the new 2x150MVA 330/132/33kV substation in Jaji, Zaria.

The project, supported by the African Development Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria, is regarded as one of the major transmission reinforcement initiatives in Northern Nigeria, aimed at expanding transmission wheeling capacity, improving grid reliability, and supporting future power generation integration nationwide.
