The Transmission Company of, TCN with support from World Bank and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has organised a three-day workshop for stakeholders in the power sector on the integration of renewable energy into the national grid.
The workshop which held between 22nd -24th January 2024, addressed the importance of the use of renewable energy for a reliable, cost-effective and efficient means of generating electricity to bridge electricity gaps in the sector.
Speaking at the occasion, the General Manager, System Operation and Development in TCN, Engr. Kabiru Adamu said that “exploring renewable sources like solar, hydro, wind serves as major sources of renewable energy mainly for the climate friendly advantages it has".
He explained that the rapid increase in bulk investment and cost of renewable energy especially the privy solar, which Nigeria is joining the rest of the world in trying to embrace is a great development for the nation's power sector.
According to him, "Nigeria is blessed with abundance of renewable energy resources. When properly integrated into the national grid, it will contribute to energy transmission for the country and as well bridge the electricity gap that we have in our nation”.
The workshop drew participants from the Ministry of Power, NERC, NCC and intec GOPA, an international Energy Consultant firm.
