TCN Sensitises Lagos Regional Staff On TLF, Others

In a bid to reduce transmission losses, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has organised a two-day sensitisation workshop for staff of Lagos Region on Transmission Loss Factor (TLF), Service Level Agreement (SLA) and Force Majeure protocol.

The programme held at the regional control centre of TCN in Ikeja-West, Lagos State on 14th and at NAPTIN Executive Hostel in Adelabu, Surulere on the 15th of February, 2024.

In her opening remark, chairman of the sensitisation committee, Engr. (Mrs.)  Nafisa Ali revealed that TCN has recorded a lot of loses to TLF hence, the programme to bring staff to speed with the importance of mitigating the losses.

Ali emphasized the need for technical staff to sit up as their actions or inactions are affecting TCN's revenue, She revealed that "in one particular month, TCN paid N1.8 billion for TLF; last year alone, TCN lost about N9 billion to TLF".

According to her, “the market now is what you sell that you make your money from. What we sell is what we pay you. Your actions or inactions attract certain damages to the inflow. This is why this programme is very important to help us mitigate the losses we've recorded previously ".

While encouraging technical staff to sit up, she maintained that "we are losing money, it's not NEPA. It's a market and there are dynamics that are dancing around every minute, every hour in the market and you have to take care of your own end if you really need that revenue; so we are saying that we need to sit up.

Also speaking, Engr. Asimi Saliu, who represented the General Manager (T) Lagos Region at the event, stated that SLA is now part of staff daily activities as anytime they have jobs they think of SLA and what will be TCN losses or gains.

He added that it was unfortunate that since the inception of SLA, “we don't hear about gains, we have been hearing about losses, and we pay billions of Naira because of this SLA. Definitely, we don't have any option but to abide by it.”

In the same vein, the Regional Operations Manager, Engr. Wasiu Tijani in his remarks stated that all the issues raised as it relates to electricity market are very important as the electricity market does not want to know if you are ignorant of it but expect every player to play by the rules.

He maintained that "we are a major player in the market as such, there are certain things in some of our actions and inactions that are contributing negatively to TCN which staff that are operating within the market have to know. We have guidelines, orders, we have agreements that we have gone into with other parties for example SLA and TLF which are key parameters for revenue in raising our revenue".
