RWG Rounds Off Tenure, Finalizes Procedure Harmonization For Efficiency in NEM

The Rules Working Group (RWG), a group of industry experts  constituted by the Market Operator (MO) in line with the Market Rules, has concluded its 3-year tenure during a five-day meeting in Enugu, capital of Enugu State.

The group whose mandate is to constructively review and update the existing Market Rules and Market Procedures made pursuant thereto, had finalized the Market Procedures  harmonization for efficiency in the Nigerian Electricity Market.

The reviewed documents which await further action by the Market Operator before full implementation in NESI, also made some propositions for the amendment of the Market Rules, notable amongst which is the proposition for the inclusion of Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) in the Market Rules.

This could not have come at a better time than now, given that  renewable energy occupies a pride of place in the Electricity Act, 2023. The said proposition will be implemented once approved by the iSAP.
