NSCDC Arrests Two For Vandalizing TCN Infrastructure




As part of its mandate to secure critical national assets and infrastructure, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has arrested two suspects for vandalizing property belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in the Igisogba area of Omi-Adio, Ibadan, on January 6, 2025, at approximately 1700hrs.



Announcing the arrest in a statement by SC Opebiyi Samuel, Public Relations Officer, NSCDC, Oyo State Command, the NSCDC said that the suspects were caught in the act of attempting to steal electrical components, which are crucial for the stable transmission of electricity in the region.


The suspects, Sunday Alayande, 30, a native of Adelakun Compound, Eruwa, Oyo State, and Bayo Jarros, also 30, an indigene of Igweto, Benue State, both residents of Omi-Adio, Ibadan, were apprehended during a routine patrol conducted by NSCDC.


Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the vandalism of the TCN infrastructure. They expressed remorse for their actions and pleaded for mercy, acknowledging the negative impact their crime could have had on the community.


Commandant Augustine Padonu, State Commandant of NSCDC, Oyo State, emphasized the importance of safeguarding national assets and reiterated the Corps' unwavering commitment to protecting critical infrastructure across the state. 


While urging citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities, particularly around government properties, to the NSCDC or other relevant security agencies, he further stressed the need for greater public-private sector collaboration to effectively combat vandalism and theft of national resources.


The Commandant who also commended the swift response of NSCDC officers and their continued dedication to ensuring the security of vital infrastructure in Oyo State added that “NSCDC remains on high alert and continues to work closely with other security agencies to protect both public and private sector interests.”


The NSCDC assured that the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court.
