TCN Enhances Wheeling Capacity at Kumbotso 330kV Substation

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully energized a new 300MVA power transformer at its Kumbotso 330/132kV Transmission Substation in the Kano Region on March 6, 2025.

Before the upgrade, the substation had a capacity of 600MVA (480 megawatts). The new 300MVA transformer has increased the substation's capacity by an additional 240MW, allowing Kano DisCo to distribute more bulk power to Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States.

Moreover, the new transformer will help reduce the load on the 150MVA transformer linked to the Dan Agundi 132kV line, enabling the Gazaoua (Niger Republic) international line to have a dedicated power transformer.

This initiative is part of the ongoing TCN/World Bank project aimed at boosting transmission capacity nationwide.
