TCN Commissions Ihovbor/Benin and Ihovbor/Ajaokuta Transmission Lines, Boosts Evacuation Capacity for NDPHC


Terminal Equipment of Ihovbor/Benin 330kV Line 2 at Ihovbor 330/131kV Substation 

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully commissioned the turn-in-turn-out connections for the Ihovbor/Benin and Ihovbor/Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Lines at 19:05 hours of Wednesday, 23rd April, 2026.

The commissioning delivers the Ihovbor corridor and provides additional evacuation capacity for the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and Azura Power. Presently, the Ihovbor/Benin Transmission Line is tramsmitting 200MW, while the Ihovbor/Ajaokuta line is transmitting 90MW.

The new connections are expected to strengthen power evacuation from the Ihovbor generating plant and improve grid stability and reliability in the affected regions.
