TCN Transmission News
The Management of Benin Region of TCN, and the Edo State Government have strengthened their partnership to address infrastructure bottlenecks, significantly reduce load underutilization and ensure a more stable power supply for residents and businesses across the state.
This followed a working visit by the state delegation, led by the Commissioner for Power, Hon. Paul Usenbor, to the TCN Benin Regional Headquarters on Tuesday, 23rd June, 2026. Both parties agreed that the engagement was critical to aligning key stakeholders in the electricity value chain.
Speaking during the visit, the General Manager, Transmission, TCN Benin Region, Engr. Charles Chidi Iwuamadi, stated that mutual cooperation is essential for regional development. He noted that Edo State cannot achieve its economic transformation goals without TCN, just as the company cannot effectively fulfill its mandate without the support of the host government.
Engr. Chidi described TCN as the “highway of power,” adding that Benin Region serves as a major electricity hub in Nigeria, overseeing substations across Edo, Delta, Ondo, and parts of Ekiti and Kwara States.
He disclosed that the region currently has a transmission capacity of 1,200 megawatts (MW) connected to the national grid and effectively operates 11 nos 330kV transmission lines and 19 nos 132kV transmission lines.
He, however, highlighted ongoing challenges including vandalism, encroachment on TCN Right of Way (ROW), and excavation activities near transmission towers. Citing a major vandalism incident along the Okpella axis last month, Engr. Iwuamadi explained that restoration efforts are often difficult due to insecurity in the area.
The General Manager reaffirmed TCN’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Edo State Government to strengthen the state’s energy sector.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Power, Hon. Paul Usenbor, declared that Edo State is prepared to take decisive action and explore avenues to attract additional investors to ensure that power allocated to the state is delivered to consumers.
TCN Management conducted the government delegation on a comprehensive tour of its facilities, including the high-voltage 330kV control room, to enable officials assess the region’s operational capacity firsthand.
With this renewed strategic cooperation, both TCN and the Edo State Government team expressed confidence that the challenge of epileptic power supply in Edo State will soon become a thing of the past.
