TCN Moves To Protect Installations In Kano Region

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has taken measures aimed at protecting its installations against encroachment of its Right of Way (ROW) as well as towers 42, 43, and 44 in Dutse – Azare Double Circuit 132 kV line in Kano Region.

Some transmission lines in the region have been encroached by sand miners despite repeated warnings to the excavators by TCN management that sand excavation has serious effect on the line.

Addressing newsmen during a visit to the affected area, Engr. MK. Bello, Assistant General Manager, TCN Kano Sub-Region said that, "we came to arrest the soil excavators because they encroached our Right of Way [ROW] which can cause our transmission towers to collapse".

Bello who stated that TCN was very concerned about repeated cases of encouragement on its facilities added that "if the tower collapses, it will cost huge amount of resources to fix. The collapse of the tower will lead to loss of power and revenue from Dutse, Azare and jama'are".

While commending the host community and local vigilantes for their support to curb attack on TCN facilities, he appealed to the Kano State government to help TCN, in addressing the challenges of Right of way encroachment.

Some suspects that were apprehended signed undertaking  with Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps [NSCDC] and Department of State Security Service [DSS] to desist from further excavations in close proximity to TCN’s installations , as well as to refill the excavated areas.
