The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, OFR, commissioned a new 63MVA Mobile Substation installed in Ajah Transmission Substation in Lagos yesterday, May 2, 2024. The project is under Phase 1 of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI).
Speaking, Chief Adelabu stated that the mobile substations and other equipment undergoing installation under the PPI represent a strategic development aimed at improving the transmission capacity constraints by over 1300MW nationwide.
According to him, the strategic placement of such equipment at Okenne, Amukpe, Potiskum, Apo, Ajah, Birnin Kebbi and others underscores the Power Ministry's dedication to enhancing transmission efficiency and reliability.
The minister implored all Nigerians to safeguard the vital installations against acts of vandalism and sabotage recognising them as essential economic assets crucial to national development.
In the same vein, the MD/CEO, of TCN, Engr. (Dr.) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz disclosed at the event that TCN has completed the installation of some World Bank projects in the Lagos Region, including the 2x100MVA power transformers at Alagbon Transmission Substation, 100MVA transformer at Ijora Transmission Substation and other locations.
He appealed to the minister that the power sector needed more publicity of its efforts and requested that dates be fixed for the commissioning of the newly installed transformers.
