In a bid to address service shortfalls and enhance electricity supply efficiency, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Port Harcourt region, has emphasized the need for speedy completion of all Service Level Agreement (SLA) projects in the region.
The General Manager, Transmission, Port Harcourt region, Engr. Emmanuel Akpa who made the call during an inspection of the project sites by a team from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on the 29th of August, 2024, said that when completed, the projects will boost TCN wheeling capacity in the region by 296MW.
Also speaking, the Senior Manager, Substation Projects, Engr. Oboma Omini, detailed the projects, which include the installation of a 150MVA power transformer at the 330/132/33kV Calabar Transmission Substation, a 100MVA power transformer in Port Harcourt Sub-Region, and a 60MVA transformer for Port Harcourt Main and Rumuosi Transmission Substations.
Additionally, other projects comprise the completed 132/33kV 1x60MVA Elelenwo Substation, where 3x33kV feeder bays is being installed, and the installation of an additional 1x60MVA power transformer and replacement of faulty bushing in an existing transformer at 132/33kV Rumuosi Substation.
On his part, representative of the CBN, Engr. Gidado A. Ishaq, said that the projects, financed by the apex bank is an intervention in the power sector aimed at removing bottlenecks due to outdated infrastructure in the transmission and distribution value chain.
