TCN Enhances Capacity With Installation of 66 Power Transformers

In a bid to boost its wheeling capacity, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully installed and commissioned sixty-six (66) high powered transformers across its ten regions between 2024 and now.

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz stated this on Wednesday 9th April, 2025, during the National joint Consultative Advisory Meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), held at the TCN corporate headquarters, Abuja.

Abdulaziz, who reaffirmed the Company’s commitment to workers welfare , commended the leadership of the union for their support , cooperation and understanding in all matters that concern the growth and development of TCN.

According to him, “I wish to express my profound appreciation to you for your maturity in handling contentious issues wherever they arise and I can assure you that we are working hard to put smile on the faces of our staff by mitigating the present economic hardship”

The MD who officially announced the smooth transition of the Independent System Opertor (ISO) from TCN to the Nigeria Independent System Operator (NISO), informed that sharing of Assets and Liabilities between the two companies is ongoing.

Providing update on the national grid, Abdulaziz said that contrary to some insinuations, the Company has achieved 76.47% reduction in grid disturbances over the past fives years compared to the preceding five years period.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero commended the Management of TCN for calling for the meeting, noting that there were several pending issues affecting the sector that needed to be addressed.

Ajaero however observed that “this meeting is with a mixed feeling for me because the last time we met, TCN was one but now a new Company has been created for the ISO. As stakeholders, we should have met as a whole before the separation so that some of the issues we agreed in our last meeting can be reviewed. But we believe that whatever we discuss here should be dealt with, by the TCN MD/CEO, who was in charge of every staff in our last meeting “.

The comrade president added that “the union as stakeholders need to be carried along in the sharing of assets and liabilities and we need to be told clearly where workers stand. We need also to know the duration of the transition period among others”.
