TCN Records Peak Transmission of 5,801.84MW

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has achieved a historic milestone with the transmission of a new national peak of 5,801.84 MW on March 4, 2025, at 21:15 hours. Th Company also recorded the highest daily energy delivery of 128,370.75 MWh.


The MD/CEO, Engr. Dr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz made this known during the 1st Quarter National Joint Advisory Committee Meeting between TCN Management and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) held on Wednesday, 9th March 2025, at the TCN Corporate Headquarters in Abuja. 



Abdulaziz highlighted other notable achievements across the company including enhanced grid reliability, expanded real-time monitoring, and strategic infrastructure upgrades as key outcomes of TCN’s sustained reform efforts aimed at meeting Nigeria’s growing energy demands. 


According to him, “TCN has expanded its monitoring capacity from 6 to 27 generation stations, enhanced real-time coordination and operational efficiency have led to a 76.47% reduction in grid disturbances over the past five years.”


Addressing the issue of vandalism and rising security threats, Engr. Abdulaziz disclosed that TCN has partnered with the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) to deploy surveillance drones and security cameras along vulnerable transmission corridors. 


“Complementing these efforts, the Risk Management Department is pioneering an ICT-driven infrastructure integrated with AI tools for real-time tracking and diagnosis of Transmission Line Faults (TLF), significantly enhancing the company’s proactive response mechanisms”, he said.


He expressed concerns over challenges, stating that "despite these accomplishments, there are ongoing challenges including “vandalism of TCN equipment, project delays due to right-of-way issues, community resistance, financial constraints, high TLF, and debts owed by Distribution Companies." 


On staff welfare, the MD who expressed deep appreciation for the Union maturity and dedication, especially in navigating the financial strains currently facing the company, assured that staff welfare remains a top priority for management.


In his remarks, the President of SSAEAC, Comrade Chika Benedict commended the TCN Management for the notable progress recorded since their last engagement. 



He expressed optimism that the meeting would foster productive dialogue and lead to actionable outcomes that would further strengthen collaboration and drive sustainable growth within the company.
